Home Automation, Done Properly

A home that thinks ahead, so we don't have to.

Solar, battery, EV charging, climate, and a growing layer of AI — built one weekend project at a time. This is where I write down what actually worked.

Why "BeeHive"

Every home has a rhythm — when the sun's out, when the battery's full, when the car needs charging, when the house should just quietly take care of itself. BeeHive is our attempt to actually build that rhythm instead of hoping for it.

It started with Home Assistant and a Tesla Powerwall, and it's grown into a full energy system: solar generation, battery storage, EV charging that follows the sun instead of the clock, and climate control that doesn't need to be told twice.

Most recently, it's grown a memory — a proper AI layer that remembers what's been tried, what worked, and what didn't, so the house gets a little smarter every week instead of starting over each time.

The Stack

What's actually running

The honest, current picture — not the brochure version.

Solar & Battery

Tesla Powerwall managing the home's energy, tariff-aware, with automations that stop cheap overnight power from quietly draining away.

EV Charging

Charging that actually follows real solar output, not a charger's own guesswork — Fast mode when the sun says go, Stopped when it doesn't.

Climate

Zone-by-zone air conditioning across the house, tied into presence and schedule rather than left running for an empty room.

AI & Memory

A self-hosted memory system so the household's AI assistant actually remembers context across sessions, instead of relearning the house every time.

Technology Stack

The unglamorous layer nobody sees — the hardware, virtualization, and orchestration underneath everything else.
